Rohit Arangil.
I build systems that listen to performance, respond to gesture, and turn computation into musical expression. My work begins at the instrument and follows the signal into software, sensing, and physical space.
Selected work
MalletMetrics ↗
Analyzes recorded marimba performances to give feedback on pitch, timing, and dynamics. Combines audio transcription, score alignment, and dynamics estimation.
Electronic Dhol ↗
A dhol augmented with sensors and a microcontroller, exploring how playing gestures can control digital sound.
Driverless perception ↗
Working on model improvement and knowledge distillation for efficient traffic-cone detection with Carnegie Mellon Racing.
BusyTartan ↗
A ScottyLabs team project developing campus mailroom queue estimation. The proposed system processes images locally and transmits aggregate counts.
Music informs
what I build.

I’m a first-year Computer Science undergraduate at Carnegie Mellon. I’m interested in computer music, real-time systems, and physical interaction—especially tools that give musicians more control over what they create.
My projects span performance assessment, sensor-augmented instruments, biofeedback, and interactive installations.
